Year 4EC

Welcome to Year 4EC Class Page, the place for you to find out all the amazing things that have and will be happening in your class this year.

Your Class Teachers

This year, your teacher is Miss Collins and your Teaching Assistants are: 

- Miss Green (Monday afternoon)

- Mrs Warren ( Tuesday afternoon)

- Mrs Payne (Wednesday afternoon)

- Miss Stairmand ( Thursday and Friday morning) 

PE

Swimming will take place every Wednesday later in the year  Please ensure your child brings

- a swimming costume or trunks

- a towel

 

PE will take place every Tuesday and  Friday. 

For PE sessions please bring the following:

- Black shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms

- White t-shirt or polo shirt

- Black pumps or trainers

It is usually best to leave your child's PE kit in school for the half-term so that it is always available to use.

Reading

It is important that your child brings their reading book into school each day as the days on which they will be able to read with an adult may change from time to time. It is also crucial that you listen to your child read each evening and ensure that you sign their reading record highlighting what they have read and how they performed.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Tuesday through our online learning platform, SeeSaw. A link for which is placed below:

All homework should be completed by the following Monday and will be checked by your teacher on this day. Please make sure that if you are having difficulties with the homework, that you contact your class teacher with plenty of time so that they can assist your child in its completion. In addition, the school also run a homework club which can really help support those children that struggle completing their tasks independently.

Curriculum

The Vikings

As writers we will: 

• Plan writing by discussing the structure, vocab and grammar of similar writing
• Discuss and record ideas
• In narratives, create settings, characters and plot
• Assess the effectiveness of own and others’ writing
• Proof-read for spelling and punctuation errors

As mathematicians we will:

  • Subtract 4-digit numbers using written methods
  • Use mental methods for adding and subtracting
  • Calculate and compare the area of shapes
  • Improve our knowledge and speed of recall of times tables
  • Multiply using known times tables facts
  • Divide using known times tables facts
  • Multiply 3 numbers

As Scientists we will:

  •  learn how electrical appliances are powered.

  • construct an electrical circuit.

  • learn how switches work.

  • investigate electrical conductors and insulators.

  • find out what factors affect the brightness of a bulb.

  • learn how we can be safe around electricity.

As Geographers we will:

  • learn where Scandinavia is and what the Nordic countries are.
  • know what the climate is like in Scandinavia.
  • find out about the human and physical features of Scandinavia.
  • compare Altrincham with a town in Scandinavia.

As Historians we will question:

  • Were Viking people pushed or pulled from Scandinavia?
  • How do we know how Vikings lived and travelled?
  • Why are Vikings known as invaders and raiders?
  • Why do the Vikings have such a bad reputation?
  • How similar and different were Anglo-Saxon and Viking religions?
  • Which were the greatest treasures of the Vikings?

In DT we will:

  • explore and investigate mechanisms.
  • plan and design a product using 2d levers and linkages.
  • make a moving puppet, to create a Viking puppet show, using 2d levers.
  • evaluate my finished product.

As learners of RE we will be exploring the Big Question:

  • What do different people believe about God?

We will:

  • understand the beliefs about God in Hinduism.
  • learn about Jewish beliefs about God.
  • consider the differences and similarities about different views of God.
  • explore the idea that some people do not believe in God.
  • to explore the Norse beliefs in God.
  • retell the Christian story of Christmas and discuss how this expresses Christian beliefs about God.

As Computer Technicians we will:

  • Plan a book trailer.
  • Take photos or videos that tell a story.
  • Edit a video.
  • Add text and transitions to a video 
  • Evaluate video editing

As learners of PSHE we will be learning about:

  • Describing and managing our feelings.
  • Explain what makes a balanced diet.
  • Understand how exercise affects your body.
  • Learn what is meant by the term habit, and why habits can be hard to change.
